Choosing to start therapy is a deeply personal decision and by being here you’ve already taken the first step. Let’s work together to learn more about yourself, increase your confidence and strengthen your communication with others.
A typical therapy appointment with me starts with creating a place you feel comfortable and safe. This can include starting an appointment with a Mindfulness exercise, using fidgets or engaging in an activity you enjoy. I like to be open and transparent with clients by explaining why I'm asking certain questions. I also regularly collaborate with other professionals such psychiatrists, nutritionists or couple's therapists to further help you meet your goals.
Is your child experiencing difficulties concentrating, forgetting to follow through with chores or navigating peer relationships? These are all common challenges for young people that therapy can help with. My goal when working with kids is to provide a safe place to communicate their feelings, regulate emotions and advocate their needs. I use creative techniques such as drawing, play therapy and anything they are generally interested in to help reduce anxiety and depression.
I regularly check-in with parents to teach the interventions used during their child’s therapy, update them on progress toward goals and address any current questions or concerns. I have previous experience working as a school counselor and addressing goals for Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). I also regularly collaborate with other professionals such psychiatrists and teachers to create a unified team to support the child.
